Student Police Cadet Project is a School based youth development initiative that trains High School Students to evolve as future leaders of a democratic society by inculcating good qualities within them such as respect for the law, discipline, civic sense, empathy for vulnerable section of society and resistance to social evils. The project also enable to youth to explore and to develop their innate capabilities their by empowering them to resist the growth of negative tendencies such as socials intolerance, substance abuse, deviant behaviour and anti-establishment violence. Equally, it strengthens within them commitment towards their family, the community, and the environment. In each school two trained teachers are acting as Community Police Officer and Additional Community Police Officer respectively for facilitating SPC training. Two Drill Instructors (Police Personnel) are detailed from the nearby police station for supporting them in physical training and parade. The District Nodal Officer (a DySP nominated) and Assistant District Nodal Officer are monitoring the district level project activities as per the instructions of State Nodal Officer.
The student Police Cadet Project started functioning in Thrissur rural in the year 2010-11 in 8 schools. Now the project is functioning in 23 schools in Thrissur rural and having a total number of 2228 Student Police Cadets in 27 SPC implemented Schools. Out of these 2228 Cadets, 1070 are Senior Cadets. At present no special training Centers are available in Thrissur Rural.
The SPC training programme comprises various modules meant to facilitate each cadet with learning inputs to acquire desired capabilities of future citizens through a regular two year course of physical fitness training, parade training, indoor classes, workshops on law and citizenship, field visits to Government institutions and judicial offices of law enforcement, Mini projects and leadership camps.
A total number of 54 instructors (SrCPO/CPO/WCPO) are appointed in the 26 SPC implemented schools in Thrissur Rural.54 Community Police Officers/Asst. Community Police Officers are in charge of the SPC Project at Schools. Each School has one CPO and one ACPO. All CPOs/ACPOs except 10 were trained about this project from KEPA/PTC.
Student Police Cadet program is being implemented in 25 Schools of Thrissur Rural Police District. Total number of 2127 Cadets are got enrolled in the SPC during 2020-21.
