      On 19th February 2003, two company of kap4 battalion along with other district police force were deployed at Muthanga forest area, Wayanad, to evacuate the Adivasi Gothra Mahasabha (AGMS) members who took siege of the Muthanga forest area. PC 4407, Vinod K.V, was also detailed for the above duty along with KAP 4th battalion personnel. In the police action that followed in the morning of 19th February, PC 4407 Vinod K.V and one forest official was taken as hostage by the AGMS and kept near the Ponkuzhi Temple. The two were part of a squad sent to look for tribal agitators hiding inside forest. In the afternoon under the leadership of commandant, kap4bn, sri. Suresh Raj Purohit IPS, fresh police action was conducted and pc 4407 Vinod K.V and the forest official were rescued with serious head injury to PC 4407 Vinod. He was immediately taken to hospital but could not save his life.
